Lent Course
Every Thursday we met as Revd. Sarah Rachell led our Lent course ‘Christ and the Chocolaterie.
Christ and the Chocolaterie is an original, innovative Lent course written by Hilary Brand for small groups or individuals, inspired by the film Chocolat starring Juliette Binoche. It suggests clips from the film, group discussion questions, exercises and meditations, and relevant Bible passages for a powerful aid to Lenten reflection. It also includes appendices on the curious history of chocolate, the unfair economics of chocolate and ideas for a chocolate feast. Twenty-one years since it was first published, Hilary has updated the course for this new edition, which still has so much to inspire those who read and discuss it, on what it means to be human and the power of change.

1000 years of history displayed on tapestry panels in our church.
St.Aidan’s Church were fortunate to have the Rochford District Heritage Tapestry on display in church for the month of May. The Tapestry had 10 ‘timeline’ panels which depicted key historic, Christian and social events across the 14 parishes of the Rochford district since the battle of Assandun in 1016 to the present day.
It took 20 months from initial concept to tapestry completion, with around 90 adults and 80 children taking part. The project’s original title ‘Knitting our Heritage together’, inspired the creation of knitted items to match against the tapestry. Historical narratives were also displayed alongside each panel.
We had 260 visitors to the Rochford District Heritage Tapestry display held at the back of the church. 47 Booklets were sold for the Rochford District and £200 was raised for church funds. A big thank you to everyone and especially to Diane for organising this event.
